The Mass I attend at Georgetown is fairly traditional, and during Lent, the choir sings the Agnus Dei, the Lamb of God in Latin. The combination of the mystical, unintelligible words and my new understanding of the tradition behind it left me to find tears in the corners of my eyes once or twice.

Jordan Denari is clearly a very talented young writer but he leaves me wondering what he and his Georgetown mentors take figuratively and what they take literally. What, for them, distinguishes a great tradition (like a few others) from the unique, definitive, actual and central encounter between God and man?
