Blessed Pedro Calungsod was beatified by the late Pope John Paul II in 2000.A teenage Visayan martyr, he was killed on April 2, 1672 by the natives of Guam where he helped Blessed Diego San Vitores teach Christianity. He was 17 years old when he volunteered to accompany Spanish Jesuit missionaries from the Philippines to Guam in 1668.
