I pulled this from a longer article enjoy!
Father Richard Ho Lung (great link), 69, a former Jesuit college professor, founded the Missionaries of the Poor in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1981. The group, a "religious institute" in the eyes of the Catholic Church, now has some 500 members who work in the slums of Jamaica, Haiti, the Philippines, India and Uganda.
In addition to its charitable work, the group is known for its music ministry. Ho Lung has written numerous religious-themed, Caribbean-flavored musicals, including "Jesus 2000," which was performed in 2006 at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank.

From the site:"In 1981 he made the difficult decision of leaving the Society of Jesus, which he loved, and founded a religious community of men who would dedicate their lives in the sole service of the rejected and the destitute."
