What do you expect when the Jesuits elected a clapped out wreck like Nicolas as a stop-gap until the beginning of a new papacy? The iron shackles of the 1970s seem unbreakable and that is why the Society of Jesus is slowly destined for extinction. Where will it be in fifty years time? If anywhere, a residual wreck.
