Catholic Discourse? How About Out Of Touch

Micheal Sean Winters is a bully blogger on America Magazine's In All Things he is now being touted (here) as Catholic commentator with a unique religious perspective available for Catholic students and educators. This new blog is called, America Magazine's Election Blog, Winters unique religious perspective is not liberal, but leftist fundamentalist drivel. Winters is still reeling from the fact that his guy Obama is on the ropes and in need of an oxygen mask. In the gazillion times he has propped up the Obama campaign, he has done so on the backs of nearly a 500 year Jesuit /Catholic tradition that is embodied in America Magazine. Winters seems to have missed a few facts that a smart guy like him should have been able to pick up on and then blog on. Recently the entire USCCB has publicly rebuked the Catholic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and by way of inclusion the entire pro-abortion Democrat Catholics in public service. You would think that this fact would make into Winter's posts, but Winters is a causality of the "wafer wars", his mind set has been so heavily invested into the "pro - choice" compromised Catholic Democrat political perspective that he can not find a way out. If elected Catholic advocates of abortion within the Democrat Party are now unworthy of participation in Holy Communion, when will their willing supporters in the Catholic media be next? Winters has sliced and diced the political phenom Sarah Palin with an 80% approval rating in her home state of Alaska. Her poll numbers now exceed both Obama's and McCain's. He has attacked her faith in the article entitled, Is Palin an Apostate? , then her morality in the article entitled, Political Smears: Patriotism and Pregnancy. I have yet to see Winter's question Obama's Black Liberation Theology roots, nor the non-Biblical belief of Obama's church that Jesus was not a Semite, but African. Winters has never once mentioned that Obama's father was a Communist economist. Nor has Winters ever mentioned Barack's brother George who lives on twelve dollars a year outside Nairobi, nor questioned Obama's ability to teach his brother George how to fish. But Winters is used to attacking, as you will be able to read in his article from 2005 entitled, Anti-Gay Auto-Da-: The perverse and vicious campaign to ban homosexuals from Catholic seminaries, in Slate Magazine, Winters takes his pot shots at the Bishops and the Holy Father, Pope Benedict.

Wouldn't it be nice to find some political balance at America Magazine? Remember Jesuits need Republicans and Republicans need Jesuits. Jesuits aren't just for Democrats

I just came on this blog by chance, it seemed pretty interesting until I came to this ultra-conservative posting. Why is it that pro-choice Catholics, like Ted Kennedy, are maligned for this one stance despite all of their work for social justice? On the other hand, right-wingers like Antonin Scalia, C. Thomas, et al. are never castigated for supporting the death penalty, or even their recent ruling upholding the execution of an innocent man in Texas? Double standard?
