Hate message can’t defeat human spirit

The most important book I have ever read was assigned to me by a Jesuit priest at the University of Scranton. Father Bernard Supp, S.J. taught us philosophy. He told us of the unimaginable power of the unbreakable human spirit. He made us understand, as human beings, we are capable of achieving anything if we discover our spirit within. To assist us in our self discovery he gave us each a copy of “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor E. Frankl. Yellowed and tattered, my copy of Frankl’s book is always here on my desk. Frankl wrote, “He who has a why to live for can bear with any how.” The human spirit is powerful, enduring and unbreakable.

Kevin Blaum is associate director of admission at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston where he also teaches government. Blaum spent 26 years as a Pennsylvania state legislator and was a Wilkes-Barre City Councilman.
