Trail explores southern shore of Georgian Bay
WAUBAUSHENE, Ont. - A newly paved 20-kilometre trail offers walkers and cyclists a way to explore historic areas along the south shore of Georgian Bay. The Tay Shore Trail runs from Waubaushene to the Wye River and the outskirts of Midland. It passes by Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons, which recreates a famous 17th-century Huron-Jesuit mission. Nearby is Martyrs' Shrine, a tribute to the French Jesuits who were martyred during the Huron-Iroquois wars. The completion of the trail in 2007 was "the culmination of over a decade's worth of effort by Tay Township council, staff and residents," said Tay Mayor Scott Warnock. An abandoned CN Rail corridor was secured for the multi-used trail. Free trail guidebooks can be picked up at municipal offices at 450 Park St. in Victoria Harbour and at libraries in Victoria Harbour and Waubaushene.
