Karl Rove At Loyola Marymount University

Karl Rove is coming to our campus (Loyola Marymount University) to speak (Feb. 3, 09) tomorrow, and I hope that all of you come and listen. This is a man of significant political clout. He was the former senior adviser and deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush. Not stunning enough?

Mr. Rove began advising Bush back in 1993 for the 1994 Texas gubernatorial races, and again in 1998 for Bush’s re-election campaign. Bush was victorious again in ‘98 and Rove continued to advise him through his election to the Presidency in 2000. Stopping there would be to fall short; he continued to work with Bush and aided him in his re-election in 2004. Rove retired from the .......Bush administration in August of 2007, citing personal and family-oriented reasons.

There’s your brief biography. You should be stunned. This trend of winning with Bush all started back in 1994. Four major political races were won – two were for the office of the president. If there’s anyone who understands Bush, it’s this man. And if there is anyone who understands a majority of Bush’s policies and knows the various secrets of the White House, it’s this man.

The most amazing thing to me, however, is that Rove was capable of....having Bush elected President not once, but twice. There is, of course, something to be said about the phrase, “It beats the alternative.” This was a phrase that Rove built Bush’s second presidential campaign on.

Last night, Karl Rove delivered a speech at Loyola Marymount University in California. “One man loudly denounced Rove as a ‘traitor’ before he was escorted out. A woman held up a pair of handcuffs and said she would like to see Rove wearing them.”

Hitler also had significant political clout. Maybe you'd like to check out one of his speeches on youtube in your search for wisdom.

I never said I liked Karl Rove. See my blog if you insist upon that idea.

It was quite generous of you to allow Karl Rove to speak at LMU, I guess in the spirit being of bi-partisan. Ironically Rove and the Bush administration did all they could to stifle dissent, restrain the free press, and bully their way to power. Not to mention use outright lies and deception to launch the Iraq war and discredit the real science on global warming.
As an alumni I feel that his presence on campus violated the spirit of community and truth and his venomous words poisoned the very air.

Dear Alex,

I couched your article because it lacked journalistic professionalism. Your article was published in your Catholic college newspaper, it lacks a common decency and spirit of fairness that one would expect for someone who calls himself a journalist. You are also a philosophy student, as such I would expect a more generous presentations of all the facts.

Dear Joe, Please point to a portion of the article that is "unfair" after you have read through the entire piece. It seems to me that you are the type of person that reads the first chapter of a book and shortly thereafter passes judgment on the entirety of its contents. Furthermore, you can disagree with my opinion, but you must point to the place where the argumentation is lacking, if you wish to have some ground to stand on.

If you want to talk about things out of context, and talk about "professional journalism" please tell me how you can misspell Los Angeles in your introduction of my article.

I suppose if I were someone like you, I would read this introduction, see that you misspelled Los Angeles, and assume that you have less than average credibility.

But then again, that would only be an ::assumption:: wouldn't it?

Dear Alex,

Your basic premise is that Rove made Bush. Sorry, but Bush made Rove. Once again your write for and attend a Catholic university, your manners and motives should be mindful of this fact. When you are writing on your own personal blog that is something different.

I suppose if Columbia can let Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speak, LMU do the same for Karl Rove.

I'm not comparing the two, by the way.
