John Dingell "The Very Best Of Our Georgetown Tradition,”

Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) tomorrow will become the longest-serving member of U.S. Congress – serving in his role for 57 years and 177 days. The Georgetown alumnus has spent his 30 terms in office helping to shape the nation’s legislation for civil rights, clean water, Medicare and U.S. workers’ rights and more. “It is an absolute honor to serve the people of Southeast Michigan,” he said this past Tuesday. “This milestone is an honor to me, and I continue to be grateful for having the trust of the proud and hard-working people I'm blessed to represent.” Dingell received his Georgetown bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1949 and returned to receive his law degree in 1952 – three years before his first term in office. His wife, Debbie, received her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service in 1975, and her Master of Arts in Liberal Studies in 1998. “Through his decades of public service, and his thoughtful, careful leadership, Congressman Dingell has represented the very best of our Georgetown tradition,” says Georgetown President John J. DeGioia. “His longevity of service is a testament to his extraordinary dedication to his constituents and our nation.”
