Personally, I don't see any "scandal" for a priest leaving the priesthood, so long as he does so in good conscience and having served his sacrament faithfully. In eastern cultures, able-bodies males in a society were traditionally expected to put in a few years of their life to monastic orders (they in turn educated them). The sacrament of holy orders is never "erased", however a priest's faculties are. That's how I see it. No scandal here.
