Here is a wonderful photo of Fr. Tim Ofrasio, S.J., professor of Liturgy at the Loyola School of Theology at the Ateneo de Manila University. He is vested here in the purple cassock and laced surplice as MC of the ordination to the diaconate of Filipino Jesuits. This is found in his Facebook profile. Fr. Tim is one of the eminent liturgists of the Philippines.
He is the good one, if you get what I mean. He celebrated the EF Mass at the Parish of the Lord of the Divine Mercy in Sikatuna Village in Quezon City. He also celebrates regular TLM at the University.

So why is the Filipino Jesuit wearing a purple monsignor's cassock?

ReplyDeleteA cleric who is MC for a pontifical high mass may wear a purple cassock. Note the color of the cuffs is the same color as the skirt- meaning that the cassock does not signify the rank of monsignor
