Officials at the College of the Holy Cross said they “regret” an incident earlier this week in which Frank Vellaccio, the school’s senior vice president, lashed out at District 4 City Councilor Barbara G. Haller,who, over the years, has pushed school administrators to do more about cracking down on student partying on College Hill.
I don't think there is a solution to this problem really. You could ban drinking at Holy Cross and its surrounding apartments, but then very few people would want to go. The best idea is probably for HC to buy up the residential areas near campus so that no non-student residents go nuts over the partying. Maybe new professors could live there, and that would disencentivize some students from getting hammered in full view of them.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to excuse any bad behavior, but I think this situation needs more perspective. Holy Cross has always had neighbors that are more sensitive than you'd find most places. (I'm an alum.) In my upstate NY city with several colleges and universities, you just don't hear neighbors complain. City life.
